“The Role of Academia in Promoting Child Rights”

Call for Abstracts

The International Hellenic University (IHU), in collaboration with the UNICEF Office in Greece, is pleased to invite submissions for the International Conference on the Role of Academia in Promoting Child Rights, to be held 4–6 June 2026 at the IHU Campus in Thermi, Thessaloniki. https://www.ihu.gr/en/hosted-events/childrights2026

The conference aims to bring together academics, researchers, child-rights practitioners, policymakers, civil society representatives, and students to explore how higher education can advance, support, and institutionalize child rights at national and international levels.

Conference Themes

We welcome abstracts that address, among others, the following areas:

1. Experiences and strategies for the promotion of child rights

• Strategic partnerships and key actors
• Key awareness-raising activities and impact
• Localized approach/ relevance to the context of the activities

2. Experiences and strategies for the generation of knowledge/ research on children

• Key areas of focus and main research outcomes
• Utilizing research outputs in policy development
• Advocacy, dissemination, and uptake of research outcomes within and outside Academia
• Collaborative research, partnerships, and leveraging of resources for research

3. Experiences and strategies for teaching and integrating child rights into university and academic institutions’ curricula

• Effective practices/ techniques and case studies of integrating child rights into university curricula
• Integration of child rights across curricula: cross-cutting versus modular approach
• Professors’ capacity building and professional development on child rights

4. The theoretical and conceptual framework on the role of Academia in child rights education and promotion

• Developments in the theoretical and conceptual framework on the role of university education in child rights education/ promotion
• The shift to the child rights interdisciplinary approach, theoretical frameworks, and methodologies on child rights and their integration in research, teaching, and practice

Submission Guidelines

• Abstract length: up to 300 words
• Language of the Conference: English
• Format: Title, author(s), affiliation(s), email address, abstract text, and up to 5 keywords
• Deadline for submissions: 31^st of January 2026
• Notification of acceptance: 15^th of March 2026

Publication Opportunities
